When I did Virtual Adjusting (Auto Liability) the Carrier was new and small and only wrote minimum auto policies. They wrote in a few States and they only had an adjusting license for the one State they were in. As I had an adjusting license in Arizona I was able to do the Virtual Adjusting for them. I was receiving about 3 to 5 new claims a day and we had a pending of about 60 files at any given time. I was taking recorded statements, obtaining Police Reports and having our field staff do scene investigations when needed. I was doing everything an inside staff desk adjuster would do. After getting all the facts I would make a liability determination and make my recommendations to the carrier. I was also handling the subrogation claims that came in from other carriers again just as a desk adjuster would do. I would send out required forms using approved letters from the carrier including denial letters.
I'm sharing this with you all so that you know Virtual Adjusting works. Also many carriers do use their own staff as telecommuters, so again same concept but they are staff and the carrier has to still pay all the benefits.
The ideal situation would be to set up an actual Virtual Adjusting Company, pre-screen all the candidates and assign the work to the various adjusters. That way there would also be Quality Control as well as file supervision. However, to do that you need to have a few solid accounts and E&O insurance which as most of you know is expensive. So for the time being, we just need to connect some Virtual Adjusters with some Carriers.
Always open to your thoughts and suggestions!
Thank you
Jeff
